This summer was well spent. I went to Plaksha university to do a YTS+ summer school in the Robotics In Action track and explore many other fields related in stem where we had to make a project. I had a wonderful experience and the 3 things I loved most were the insightful and in-depth keynote sessions with many different professors and successful engineers, my hands-on practical experience on my project like integrating circuits and designing the project itself and the many different lively activities specially planned for us. The project which seeked my interest was called Spectrasort: Smart waste segregation. It was about us solving a very big problem in the world, which is waste segregation. During my time researching there, I learned that 2.56 billion tons of waste is not being segregated at all. My project could solve a real world challenge. In my project  my main component was an NIR sensor. This sensor shoots an infrared beam onto an object to identify its chemical composition and what kind of material it's made of. Using this advanced technology me and my team made a dropper. This project used an ESP32 as the brain of the whole circuit from where I programmed different components like servo motors and stepper motors. This project used C++ to run the whole system and classified 4 different types of materials like wood, plastic, metal and paper. My key learning was how to program different components in different types of languages. Using what I learned I could program various websites for different projects I am working on. It also helped me deepen my knowledge on different types of components in a circuit.

The whole waste segregation project also taught me  a critical life lesson that I have been hearing and reading about, but now I could contribute in my own small way to find a solution for it. I pay close attention to how I segregate items.

Overall, my experience at Plakshas YTS program was extremely valuable and impactful for my personal growth and learning. I learnt to collaborate on a team and lead a team with varied skill sets to ensure we had a working model with a unique lens. Would I recommend this to high schoolers? Absolutely, yes!
